Cherries On-Top.

There are a variety of techniques Yogi AF utilizes for targeting intention. These are added to customize + elevate each practice. The type being used varies per experience, but each includes counteracting stress, anxiety, unease, overwhelm, exhaustion + even excess energy. These things impact all levels of our lives.

These often go untended, but considering the impact inaction can cause, they deserve some love + intention.

The Methods.

*Yogi AF offerings include, but are not limited to, the types of methods listed below. These practices are complex by nature, so these descriptions are meant only to inform.

Breath-work.

As part of the Autonomic Nervous System we breathe without conscious effort of doing so. When we focus on our breathing it also brings awareness. Awareness to how the breath fills us + feels to us, creates a mind-body connection.

Normally we wouldn’t have immediate control over altering these systems (ie. blood vessels, kidneys). The cool thing, is that even though breathing is an autonomic function we can choose to alter it. We take deeper inhales, forceful exhales, slowly pull in or draw out breaths + even temporarily stop this function by holding our breath. Applying breath-work techniques can even reset the Autonomic Nervous System to restore balance.

So let’s breathe + let that shit go.

Movement.

Life has a way of adding stress + tension, but rarely offers equal opportunities to remove them. Primal movement is instinctual, organic + freeing. This is one way we combat the negativity, by moving through it to release it.

Starting in yoga postures movements are gradually added. Some are subtle, like hip ticks or circles added to chair pose, while others are more dramatic, like arm swinging + chest drumming in a warrior pose.

Smacking the mat offers a release akin to a child’s tantrum, leaving them relaxed enough to nap. This build + release of energy is where we find peace, the calm in the storm of life.

Mindfulness.

This practice is about connecting to you. Thoughts can overwhelm us, become obsessive + confuse decision making. This is an opportunity to allow your thoughts to flow freely, without judgement, only acknowledgment.

It’s about being present. Present in that moment, in your body, in those thoughts. When all other distractions are sifted out, you’re only left with what your subconscious knows is important for you to observe in that moment.

Self-massage.

Sometimes we need a little touch. Yogi AF applies Thai-Yoga Massage techniques through guided self-massage. While engaging certain postures our deeper layered muscles become accessible. While seated or lying down we give some extra love + intention to the shoulders, neck, skull + face. This self-care practice prepares the body to settle in to Savasana + complete relaxation.
